How to Use Bright Spots

Discover high-performing schools in challenging contexts that outperform their peers.

What It Does

Bright Spots identifies schools that outperform their demographic peers on proficiency and equity metrics. Using peer-adjusted performance scoring, it finds schools beating the odds — high-poverty schools with strong outcomes, or high-diversity schools with low disparity.

Understanding what these schools do differently helps educators replicate success and helps vendors identify schools that are primed for growth investments.

Who It's For

Educators seeking models to learn from. District leaders looking for best practices within their own systems. Vendors who want to partner with schools that are already demonstrating strong results. Researchers studying effective school practices.

How to Use It

  1. Open Bright Spots from the sidebar under the School Intelligence Suite.
  2. Filter by state and demographic characteristics (e.g., FRL rate above 75%, enrollment 200-800).
  3. Review the results showing schools ranked by peer-adjusted performance score.
  4. Click any school to see which metrics it excels in relative to similar schools.
  5. Compare bright spot schools against non-bright-spot peers to understand the performance gap.
